Resurrecting an Old Dream

As mentioned on my welcome page, I am in the process of resurrecting my photography. I am not calling it a business because its not.  I have loved honing my portrait photography over the years and have been honored to capture so many precious memories for old friends and clients who became new friends. I love being the reason someone has a memory that can take them back to that feeling when they said "I do" or when they finally achieved a milestone event like Graduation.

I never set out to make money from photography. My mother, who passed away last July, always had a camera in her hand and I have stacks of old photo albums to prove it. I guess I got the bug from her. She was far from professional and had no idea what she was doing most of the time but that camera was always clicking. It was no surprise when I picked up my first SLR camera in the early 90's. I spent a summer learning from a professional photographer and sort of took it from there. Even years later, this photographer would sit on the phone and debrief shoots with me. I treasure that knowledge and all the other photographers have shared with me over the years to make me better.

Another thing my mom gave me was my love of the mountains and adventure and wildness. The place I have always felt at peace and closest to God is out in creation, especially the mountains. I could sit on a mountain and just stare all day long. Some people feel that way about the beach, but for me, when I head west and at the first sight of the mountains in the distance, my soul breathes deeply and sighs with joy. I have gotten into backpacking recently and really been able to see those wild places that still exist. The outside world is stilled and the only sound is the sound of heaven and nature singing. After my mom passed, I ran to the wilderness. I keep going back because it's a deep need I have to connect out there and disconnect from everything pressing on a daily basis.

I think everyone should experience this, but since not everyone can or is inclined to spend days sleeping on the ground and eating dehydrated food, I decided I would rebrand my photography into Wild Shots and invite anyone who desires to experience the wild the chance to do so safely and comfortably from the couch or favorite chair.

I will still happily do portraits for friends and their referrals but my passion is being reignited into Wilderness Landscape Photography. I am still not sure what its going to look like. I would like to offer prints for sale and not to get rich but just to get the gas money to go take more shots. I have no idea how this will ultimately work or what it will look like but I hope to see you out there on the ride.
